On the first Monday of each month Peter T hosts and curates a lovely and intimate music session at the unique crypt beneath the Louis Marchesi – a space so special and full of character it hardly needs a Lennon mural – where the music is acoustic and unplugged, and all performed under candlelight. It’s quite special.
Peter himself opened the music as the crypt slowly filled up, playing some classical and baroque with the odd hilarious and incongruous profanity thrown in as he cursed his fingers.
This was followed by a solo set from singer-songwriter Jack Solomon on guitar and then a rare appearance from Danny Whitehouse, formerly of Echoes in the Well / Koi Paraga and joined by Ed from Our Quiet Friends on upright bass, and Azzy from Nebula Sun on cajon. It was quite a treat for the by now considerable audience packing out the crypt.
To round off a lovely night of music it was the original duo version of Hot Raisin, sounding lovely too with the acoustics of the space as well as being charming as ever.
Lights Out used to be run by Pedz some years ago but he’s now based in Bristol so it’s great that Peter T is now holding that candlelight and continuing these beautiful acoustic and unplugged evenings. They happen on the first Monday of each month and entry is free though a pot is passed around for donations which are divided up among the artists performing.
“This month “lights out” presents another spectacular lineup of acoustic musical acts in the charming crypt underneath the Louis Marchesi pub. Acts include:
Hot Raisin Unplugged – Original acoustic set by this well established critically acclaimed band.
Danny Whitehouse and friends – Atmospheric original music from the ex Echos in the Well frontman.
Jack Solomon – Powerful melodies and thought provoking lyrics from this experienced musician
Peter Turrell – Classical guitar. Original and historic music
