Tuesday saw the third of the recently revived Sofar Sounds in Norwich at a secret address and line up. It turned out to be on Unthank Road in Theo’s beautifully lit back room and featuring a Morganway trio of Yve, Callum and Matt, Happy Coloured Marbles, and Laura Goldthorp. The turnout was really good with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere from an attentive audience. I was at the hospital earlier in the day for hand surgery so was rather limited in my ability to take photos and type, I wasn’t really supposed to be out and about at all but of course music is my medicine!
I was invited to the beautiful Octagon Chapel for Friday’s launch of the new Inlay album, my attention immediately drawn to the four brollies outside, a nice touch. Support was to have come from the delightful Phoebe Troup but alas she was hit by the current bug doing the rounds (get well soon, Phoebe!) and a chance meeting with Noel Dashwood earlier in the day by Inlay led to him saving the day and providing support with Clark & Zuppardi. This was a highly enjoyable bluegrass flavoured set peppered with covers from the likes of The Osborne Brothers and Gillian Welch but also featuring a fair number of their originals.

It’s been a while since I saw Inlay but they always make an impression on me as they did again here. Spread over a couple of sets the playing was perfect and the songs beautiful. Banjo, violin, accordion and guitar all complimenting each other and the sound in this special venue was just amazing. A gem of a gig featuring lovely, warm people in great surroundings.

Towards the end of the night I popped into Jurnets just in time to catch a marvellous set by Jasper Taylor to close Shane’s Music House Acoustic-ish Session.
