The wonderful Gossamer Thread Vaudeville Co. returned to Great Yarmouth, once again in the very beautiful St. George’s Theatre for an excellent night of entertaining and varied cabaret. Hosted by the charismatic Lili La Scala it featured the exceptional talents of the company directors Daisy Black on hoops and Alex the Mind Reader, as well as the extraordinary Bendini, Lipstick and Wax, Lucy Enskat of Hocus Pocus Theatre, and Kimberley Moore. Kimberley was doing walkabouts before the show and during the interval as the Strong Man but onstage delivered a wonderful song about the strong man’s inner vulnerability, as so often with her songs it was touching and very clever.
Gossamer Thread events are always so entertaining, the evening flies by as we are transported by the show. The next one is a return to Norwich, this time at Norwich Playhouse on 18 June 2016
The following day was a relaxing evening at The Plasterers for a couple of Sunday Funday sets by Don’t Lose Heart (with the St. Pauli Massive!) which featured a number of new originals. Great fun from Lou and Dickie.
Tuesday was Iain Lowery’s fortnightly OST music night at Cinema City Bar. It provided me with another chance to see Maya Law after her Dirty Stop Outs appearance last week, and the fantastic Phoebe Troup. I’m really liking her voice and Appalachian style and the brilliant storytelling. Headliners were Laurie Bennett and Chad Mason who were splendid together, Chad in fine storytelling form too. The songs are beautiful and full of local references, Wensum Song being a memorable example.
