It’s always a pleasure to see Dove and Boweevil and today I caught them for the third time in a week for another confident and fun, tight set at the Walnut Tree Shades with several familiar faces in the audience to see them with the full compliment line up having Mojo back on keys.
It was a hot one as they played two sets from about 5:30pm to 8pm, at which point there was just time for a hasty and impromptu photoshoot before heading up the road to Gonzo’s.
At Gonzo’s I was looking forward to enjoying the excellent Morganway and Alabama’s Tony Brook. First on tonight though was Golly Ghost, whose recordings have impressed me. It wasn’t perhaps the most visual of sets with just a laptop and some gadgetry in the near darkness of the candlelit venue but the music was good.
Once again I was suprised and pleased to find Tony Brook on the bill, and he played another enjoyable acoustic blues set. Catch him with his band at Grapevine on Wednesday 19th at Bedfords Bar.
On my last visit to Grapevine I caught a brilliant set by Morganway, without drums or bass they have a rich and full sound with wonderful guitars, keys and glorious vocals by Yve on these memorable songs. I love them, one of my favourite local acts.
