It’s already nearly a year since Jack Pout left our county for a new life in Brighton but I did have the fortunate pleasure of bumping into him at a couple of gigs recently, once in Norwich during the Festival but more recently at the Royal Albert Hall, of all places, for the Rodriguez gig.
He has just released an EP entitled Baksun, a very stripped back format with just Jack’s voice and guitar, recorded on analogue equipment in Brighton. The arrangements means one really pays attention to the thoughtful and clever lyrics over the five songs. I like the way he slips some gentle humour into some quite wistful, even slightly melancholic songs (“Small Victories”) which nevertheless have an ultimately uplifting vibe over the EP with the catchy, and memorable melodies and delivery.
The EP can be downloaded on his Bandcamp site here, for £4 https://jackpout.bandcamp.com/album/baksun
