Hot Damn Presents Nick Pride & the Pimptones featuring Beth Macari, Sure D, Voodoo Boogie, Roger T, Funk E Fish at The Talk, Norwich 9 May 2015
I was covering for photography at this splendid event at The Talk, brought to us by Hot Damn, Norwich. As well as featuring a late bar, hot snacks, and decorations by Symbiotic Decor we had a full live band from Newcastle in the form of Nick Pride and the Pimptones featuring Beth Macari and DJ sets of soul, funk and r ‘n’ b from Sure D, Voodoo Boogie, Roger T, and Hot Damn aka Funk E Fish, with a running time for the night of 9pm-3am.
The place did look gorgeous in the purpose built Talk, the lighting, reflections from the mighty mirrorball picking out the colours and also the 45s hung over the stage and the ingenious record sleeve bunting all around the dancefloor.
The DJs kept the dancefloor busy for the entire night with a set of an hour or so from the excellent jazzy Nick Pride and the Pimptones, who got even better when they were joined by newest member Beth Macari who looked amazing and sounded great with an easy and relaxed manner reminiscent of fellow Geordie visitor to the city, Hannah Rickard though she also certainly knew how to belt a soulful number out too. Her entrance and first few sung lines made a big impression, coming onstage on blue dress and striking flame red hair. I heard a lot of comments after their set in the most complimentary terms.
There was a freakish clash of a number of soul events in Norwich on the same night which must have affected the attendance slightly but there was still a good number of people here and the dancefloor was kept busy by the relentlessly well chosen and danceable tracks by all the DJs until I departed shortly before 3am.
Many thanks to all the Hot Damn crew, all the acts and DJs as well as the staff and security at The Talk who helped make it such a relaxed and lovely easy-going atmosphere. Everyone was smiling all night. Lovely.
