Dave Thomas and friends live at Fine City Blues, The Murderers, Norwich. 26 March 2015
Even after two incredible gigs in the same week – The Handsome Family at NAC and Kill it Kid at The Waterfront – I could not resist another taste of live music having had a great time here at The Murderers last week in a splendid Fine City Blues night with Jack J Hutchinson Trio.
Tonight was a more chilled affair and perfect for this particular Thursday night where one could sit and relax and enjoy the music, the company, the fine beer and overall mood. The Murderers have some great ales now and at refreshingly nice prices and the pub is excellently set up for live music.
Allowing for a short break of 20 minutes or so Dave Thomas and his band played for about four hours with the standard never dropping for a second, playing a mixture of covers by the likes of Buddy Guy and John Lee Hooker as well as his own songs, closing with a 12 minute rendition of his Sweet Black Angel.
Amongst the blues fans in the audience was Little Red of Mojo Preachers who was invited onstage for two or three songs and belted out the blues with Dave. I’m in the Mood was superb!
This night is a welcome addition to the diary and so nice to have a relaxed atmosphere where the blues can be played late on into the night on a Thursday.
Many thanks to Dave Thomas, and also the Murderers who kindly lit the candles at my request, as they are such a beautiful addition to the ambiance.
