VertiBo! The Bo Nanafana New Year’s Eve party at The Talk, Norwich. 31 December 2014. All photos (c) shashamane http://www.norwichblog.com
I saw in 2014 at The Talk for the previous Bo Nanafana New Year’s Eve Party with BK & Dad, The Thinking Men et al, which had a Twilight Zone theme. It seemed appropriate to bookend the year, over 200 gigs later, with the latest Bo night with an Alfred Hitchcock inspired theme of “VertiBo!”. It’s always a pleasure for me to be at these Bo Nanafana events and this one was no exception, with a line up that included The Dirty Gentlemen, DJ Chris Tofu, Greg’s Greats of The Shellac Collective, DJ Rorshack, Swing City dance class, Mary Bijou Cabaret, and even a fill size statue of the legendary Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock himself, loitering discretely at the side of the stage.
The venue itself was done up to the nines in typically beautiful and impressive style by the Bo crew and a host of helpers. The place had friendly venue staff, great sound, lighting, and general vibe. A few friends that I bumped into all said that it doesn’t matter if one comes alone to a Bo night as you will always see like-minded souls, friends, and familiar faces. I totally agree with this, everybody is on the same wavelength, there are invariably loads of people I know there, and even those whom I do not know are usually simply a friend that I haven’t met yet. Everybody just wants to have a good time.
The mood in all rooms was positive and joyous, there was tremendous dancing throughout and some absolutely knockout costumes, I particularly liked the walking shower scenes from Psycho, the wonderfully subtle North by Northwest guy, and the Rear Window chap. Inspired genius!
As always with Bo Nanafana it was non-stop entertainment (superb value with all the acts and a whole seven hours of showtime!) between the rooms and simply brilliant music. Greg Butler of the Shellac Collective seemed to be enjoying every moment of playing brilliant classics and had the whole room bopping to Sing, Sing, Sing!
At the countdown to midnight in the main room a packed dancefloor cheered as an explosion of tinsel and glitter paper cascaded down.
Many thanks to all the acts and artists, the whole crew, staff of The Talk, and of course Bo Nananafana.
