The excellent new Vagaband album Medicine for the Soul arrived in the city this week and tonight’s gig was a sort of pre-official launch gig. Hopefully it can be announced with a bang when Daniel is back in action as he has sadly been laid low with illness and was unable to drum tonight (Get well soon, Dan!) but the excellent Pedz of Feral Mouth was able to stand in and did a fine and professional job.
There’s always a great atmosphere at Vagaband gigs and likewise the Blueberry, especially on a Friday night and the two coming together predictably brought a large crowd and the place was fairly packed by 9pm when the band kicked off their set. They played a great mix of older songs, crowd favourites and a sprinkling of songs from the new album, although I think and hope more of them will soon become set regulars once Dan is playing again.
It was a marvellous night, loads of familiar faces from Vagaband gigs, and one friend choosing to celebrate his birthday by seeing the band, a wise choice – Happy Birthday, Keith!
It was so much fun and the atmosphere was “Vagaband joyous”! We were even treated to a very rare turn on vocals by Patrick.
I have written already about how wonderful the new album is here, it can be obtained from the band at gigs, or Soundclash in Norwich and will be available to order online soon.
Many thanks to The Vagaband and Sarah of The Blueberry
