Singer Songwriter’s Sunday, at Geldeston Locks, with Natalie and Matt Watson, 13 July 2014
It’s not often I get the chance to get to the beautiful Geldeston Locks, so I rather jumped at the chance on a sunny late morning when Matt Watson offered me a lift down there. Following the seeming pattern of the summer so far though, the dark rainclouds appeared shortly before our arrival but the Locks is never defeated by the weather, and the gig continued outside with a gazebo to protect the performers and the equipment.
It really is a lovely pub with a charming atmosphere and wonderful Green Jack ales, as well as some delicious-smelling home cooking which I somehow managed to resist!
We just caught the final moments of the previous act when we arrived and Matt took to the stage around about 3:15pm during a break in the showers for some welcome sunshine. It didn’t last long however as the heavens soon opened once again but undeterred Matt just adapted and improvised his lyrics to fit in any rain reference possible! Well done to Matt by the way, for achieving his album Pledge target, and also for his Mustard TV “Music Mash” appearance.
I hadn’t seen Natalie for a while so it was good to catch up and hear her play again – she also had another new composition in her set, a very beautiful and touchingly written song for her boyfriend, entitled You Gave Me. She was in a relaxed mood charming everyone between songs with her easy chat and most of all with her gorgeous voice when she sings, nobody cared about the rain while she performed.
Natalie plays at Latitude on Sunday 20 July.
Whilst taking some snaps of Natalie through a rainy window inside the pub, this extrovert little character wanted to get in on the act!
Another act was just starting as we had to leave but I hope it won’t be too long before I can return to the lovely Locks again.
Many thanks to Matt Watson for the generous lift, and to Ben for the warm, smiling welcome!
