Daisy Victoria, Jessica Alice, The Sound of Sight at OST, Cinema City Bar, Norwich, 22 April 2014. Photos
A really lovely OST, with sets from Sound of Sight (Paul Hubbard), Jessica Wilson (aka Jessica Alice) and a first appearance here by Daisy Victoria.
I’ve seen Sound of Sight here a few times and really like his style, tonight he was playing the “mighty mouse organ” which suits his sound totally. I’m really loving the new songs, especially the new single This Town with its catchy hooks and chord changes. Available as “pay what you want” from http://thesoundofsight.bandcamp.com/
Next was a rare treat with a set from Jessica Wilson, who played perfectly and beautifully. Intricate guitar playing and a stunning voice. Sadly it will be her last appearance for a while as there is a baby on the way, it would seem she was also tapping along her feet to Jess’ playing! That led into a brilliant version of Frazey Ford’s ‘Firecracker’.
I saw Daisy with her band a few days ago, and today she was solo, and marvellous as ever in this venue. Her restrained power occasionally letting rip on the likes of Heart Full of Beef, and Secret Garden Path proving to be a total ‘ear worms’. Each time I hear her I notice new things, I love what she does with guitar and her full lyrics, with nods towards early Cure, and as a friend mentioned to me, even All About Eve. I shall include links to videos from the night of Tree, and the visceral, powerful and primal Heart Full of Beef. Daisy is in a rich vein of form at the moment, long may it continue.
