The Vagaband at The Plasterers, The Beautiful Word at The Doghouse, Satelliti at The Playhouse Bar, 24 November 2013
Quite an eventful day of music this one, starting with the fine Sunday afternoon session in the wonderful Plasterers Arms were a five-piece Vagaband featuring Jose, Ali, Tris, Dan and Patrick. The place was packed to the rafters and the mood – as always here – cosy, friendly and fun.
After the Vagaband I dashed to The Doghouse, to catch Brighton’s delightful and charming The Beautiful Word whom I had the pleasure of reviewing for their album recently. They play a pleasing pop with delicious melodies and harmonies. I caught a few minutes of Norwich’s Kings and Crows but wanted to get to The Playhouse to hear the intriguing Satelliti, on Jose’s recommendation. I was not to be disappointed.
From Italy, the duo of Satelliti play some experimental and mesmerising soundscapes. Featuring live drums and synths they are producing some of the most interesting electronica I have heard in a long time.
Biography
Marco and Andrea started to jam together in 2010. The outcome is their debut album “Im Magen des Kosmos” made entirely out of live improvising morning sessions. In recent live performances they are introducing elements of early electronica which is becoming the core of their new material.
A more structured and overwhelming live experience; taking the ‘bitches brew’ to the club
