Wooden Arms at NAC, Clive Gregson & Jose McGill at Bedfords Crypt, and The Piratones at The Blueberry for the We Are Norwich finale, 28 November 2013
A few photos from another exceptionally busy night of music in Norwich. A new look Wooden Arms playing mid-tour at the NAC supporting Rue Royale and Ruarri Joseph for Dreams Music. Wooden Arms have expanded to a seven piece, with Jess Wilson on guitar and vocals, and Mac on drums, joining Alex, Jess, Fyn, Jeff and Milly. It has obviously filled out their sound but works beautifully and they played another sumptuous set. It’s always a pleasure to hear them in venues such as the gorgeous NAC with its warm sounds and good visibility, a lovely venue.
Meanwhile at Bedfords was a gig featuring Clive Gregson and Jose McGill of the Vagaband performing a solo set. Everyone seemed to enjoy both sets immensely, and Dan did a fine job on sound and also on relocating from the upstairs part of the venue at short notice. I’d never heard Clive before but he played beautifully and with a lovely presence between songs. Great atmosphere at this gig.
Also with a great but very different atmosphere was the We Are Norwich night at the Blueberry. Some silly threats from the EDL to sabotage the event proved to be nothing more than than and I was just in time to catch a celebratory finale from the wonderful Piratones.
Many thanks to Ian Hudson, Norwich Arts Centre, Daniel Reynolds, Dickie Hartt, We Are Norwich, and all the artists.
