Chains and George Cheetham, in session and in conversation with Sophie Little at BBC Introducing in Norfolk, 24 August, 2013
It was my pleasure once again to cover the photos for BBC Radio Norfolk’s Introducing programme on Saturday, amongst the fine staff and volunteers there. Tonight there was a live session and chat with Chains, and also a chat and a live track from George Cheetham. I was here today as regular photographer Rob of Music Art Study was away at Folk East.

Such is the abundance of talent in the area these days that I am continually being made aware of bands that have previously gone under my radar. One such act is the new-ish Chains, who I was hearing for the first time today. Confident, likable and accomplished they played a couple of songs beautifully, with engaging and interesting lyrics and a sparse, slightly dark sound that made me think of The xx. Singer Robyn (in ‘Unknown Pleasures’ Joy Division t-shirt) delivered the haunting lyrics accompanied by great electric guitar and a very warm bass. I believe they have a support slot at Epic coming up (to Visage) but I’d love to hear them at one of their own gigs soon. Interesting band and one to watch.

Also in the studios today was George Cheetham, of Dereham, who I have heard played on the show before, when I was last in there. An extremely talented and likable chap, his performance was fascinating to watch and to hear. Another with haunting and thoughtful lyrics he sang and played guitar, making use of pedals, and also a rarely seen melodica. We had a very pleasant chat beforehand and discovered we both shared a mutual appreciation of the dub by Augustus Pablo, who himself was a pioneer of the melodica.
