Drink ‘n’ Jive djs Earl Harlem and Dan Reynolds at The Spiegeltent for Norfolk and Norwich Festival, 24 May 2013, review.
After the Birdcage ‘Fresh Blood’ gig of the same night, it was a quick dash across the city to the Festival Gardens to catch Drink ‘n’ Jive in the glorious settings of the Spiegeltent – a perfect match for their blend of great tunes.
Dan and Earl Harlem set up these regular Drink ‘n’ Jive nights in the Ten Bells monthly, at the end of last year, growing each time, with the irresistable sounds of swing, 50s, 60s, rock, soul, R’n’B and anything that will get people onto the dancefloor. For the Festival they were invited to fill the Friday 11-2 slot, which was an inspired choice as the place was packed, with a busy dancefloor and smiles all around.
Norwich just loves this time of year and all these late night events are a real popular bonus. The bar tent adjacent to the Spiegeltent is a great place to mix and catch the mood before a gig, or just to see who is around and catch up.
Seeing many familiar faces in and around I was really enjoying it. At one point I was talking to some friends just outside, but then heard the sounds of the Bugsy Malone classic “We Could’ve Been Anything We Wanted to Be” and just had to go back in. These great guys are super djs, knowing how to gauge the mood on the dancefloor, how to lift the levels and ride the momentum. Brilliant fun.
Look out for them in the smaller setting of the Ten Bells on St Benedicts, where their next regular night will be Friday 7 June.
The summer is finally (pretty much) nearly here and Dan Reynolds and Earl Harlem bring you the much looked forward to seventh installment of Drink ‘n’ Jive!
Dance yourself silly to the best selection of rock ‘n’ roll, early R ‘n’ B, soul, motown, northern soul and a whole lot more.
We’ll be playing songs to move and shake to all night long, plus the X Bells has a fine fine bar with a huge selection of whiskeys and real ales. It’s the perfect friday night!
Our first few events have been a real success and we thank all of you for your support and excellent dance moves. Let’s make this one even bigger. Be sure to get there early to bag room on the dancefloor!
