After this extraordinary run of gigs in Norwich I was feeling a little bit tired but really wanted to get to this performance, for a multitude of reasons, and I am so very glad I did! I have recently gotten to know Claire from Strom via Facebook, a duo (with Ross) who I was keen to see, having been unable to catch their appearance at Jurnet’s a few weeks previously. As soon as I arrived I chanced to see Claire, who introduced me to Ross and we had a really nice chat. But first up was an act called The Familiars, who ironically I was totally unfamiliar with and know nothing about. Unfortunately I did not have the best of views of the stage during their set, so apologies for the quality of the photos.
Strom were on next, and I really, really enjoyed their songs and delivery. Lovely people who I will make sure I can see and hear perform again soon 🙂
The next act was the intriguingly named Gerard & I. It turned out to be the tireless Pete Warner, who organised this gig along with countless others, that he somehow fit in as well as drumming for Feral Mouth and Killamonjambo! Alongside him was Gerard aka Hangontoyourdreams, playing the exquisitely beautiful sound of the hang drum. This was an astonishing collaboration and I cannot wait to hear the results on their forthcoming album!
Rounding off the night was a fantastic set of raw acoustic blues, by Ben Smith from Cambridge. He had a great style and voice, not dissimilar to William Elliott Whitmore. He went down a storm and the evening could have gone on for hours more if only it were possible.
